How many jobs does a data center create?

Construction peaks in the hundreds and ends. Permanent operations are typically a small specialized crew — often dozens, not hundreds. Indirect job claims depend heavily on the multiplier chosen.

Are data center jobs good jobs?

Operations roles — technicians, electricians, security, facilities — are generally well paid, but there are few of them per megawatt compared with other industrial uses of the same land and power.

A groundbreaking photo is not a payroll. Construction is real and finite. Operations are real and small. Indirect jobs exist and are easy to inflate.

Industry benchmarks (Hamm Institute and related compilations): operations often ~0.15–0.5 FTE per MW at scale; construction peak is a different ratio and a different year. Google-scale campuses still measure permanent staff in the hundreds, not tens of thousands.
